As wonderful—or challenging—as summer can be, for many people summer is at least one thing: different. How will you tune your rule of life to be intentional about prayer, community, and mission this summer?
The first part of this article mentioned the redirect technique as a helpful tool for addressing thought-provoking questions that may come up during small group discussions.
As a facilitator of a small group, you play a really important role. You are the instigator of a lively, edifying, spirit-filled conversation around the most important words ever written down—God’s word in Sacred Scripture.
Reflecting on Scripture exercises your mind. You use your intellect to understand the passage and ponder the meaning it conveys. But your mind is not only analytical.
My own spirit needs to find such refuge and mercy. My spiritual director once told me, “Jason, Jesus is not a war to be won.” He said this to me because I often slip into the thinking that I can take the ground of holiness—achieve greater love, more freedom, the abundant life of God in Jesus—through the power of my will.
